
Title: Health Equity Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Summary:
We are seeking applications for a postdoctoral research fellow interested in conducting research on interventions that promote equity for underrepresented and marginalized individuals in the biomedical and health research workforce.
This position will report directly to Marcus Lambert, Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and collaborates with the Brooklyn Health Disparities Center. Dr. Lambert’s research group investigates health inequities through the lens of workforce diversity, mentorship, and community engagement. Projects focus on the composition of the health workforce, disparities in training and mentorship, and how these disparities influence health outcomes.
Candidates will design and implement interventions that leverage mentor networks to address inequities in scientific training and health outcomes. The postdoctoral fellow will also have opportunities to conduct community-engaged research, working with community-based organizations across New York City.
The postdoctoral fellow receives salary support for a two-year period and may be eligible for renewal. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with faculty mentors and the research team to conduct independent research, publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, and contribute to grant proposals. It is also expected that the fellow establishes networks that will facilitate transition to career development awards and future independent funding. The second year of support is contingent upon successful achievement of milestones and a progress report submitted after year one.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research Design and Implementation (45%):
- Develop evidence-based interventions focusing on mentorship networks.
- Prepare and manage submissions for Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval and renewals, ensuring that all research activities adhere to ethical standards.
- Oversee main research activities including, but not limited to, participant coordination, training program facilitators, data collection and management.
- Utilize both quantitative and qualitative research methods to analyze data appropriately for the preparation of manuscripts and conferences.
- Participate in team meetings related to research activities.
- Publication and Dissemination (25%):
- Prepare manuscripts for publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Present research findings at departmental, national and international conferences and seminars.
- Grant Writing (10%):
- Support the preparation of grant proposals and associated documentation, including just-in-time documents, progress reports, and routing forms.
- Mentoring and Teaching (20%):
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in scientific research practices.
- Establish and sustain mentoring networks through departmental collaborations, participation in professional development initiatives, and leading workshops to support research skill development.
- Optionally, contribute to teaching activities, e.g., guest lectures, workshops related to research expertise.
Qualifications:
- A doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, or equivalent) in Public Health, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Education, Sociology, or related field.
- Proficiency in statistical software such as SPSS, R, or SAS.
- Proficiency and experience in qualitative research methods.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
